Inp.polri.go.id - Sorong. Members of the Sorong City Sub-regional Police in South West Papua, tasked with securing polling stations on Soop Island, found themselves assisting in the transportation of ballot boxes to the island's shore due to docking challenges faced by their boat.
Sorong Police Chief, First Inspector Sendi Wanggai, revealed on Tuesday (13/2/2024) that the logistics distribution to Soop Island relied on motorized boats for transportation, according to antaranews.com. "However, with the significant recession of the sea during the day, I and fellow officers pitched in to transport the ballot boxes to Soop Island," he stated. The sea on Soop Island receded approximately 200 meters during the logistics distribution, prompting police members to manually carry the ballot boxes from the boat, docked in deep waters, to the island's land. Chief Wanggai explained that 20 ballot boxes were distributed to Soop Island for four polling stations, requiring only two boat trips to transport all the boxes. "The ballot boxes have safely reached their destination and are in good condition, ready for tomorrow's voting," he assured. Supervision from the West Papua Regional Police in the Sorong Islands included Senior Superintendent Arif Hidayat, the Head of Human Resources, serving as the Regional Supervisor for Sorong Police, alongside Superintendent Bendot Dwi Prasetio. The security detail from Sorong Police consisted of Assistant Superintendent Stefani I Tasane, the Head of Human Resources, and Senior Inspector Arifal Utama, Chief of the Criminal Investigation Unit.
