Police Blocked 351 Social Media Accounts During Emergency PPKM for Spreading Hoaxes

Head of Public Affairs Division of Indonesia National Police, Police Grand Commissioner Ahmad Ramadhan mentioned there are hundreds of social media accounts that were blocked for spreading false news or hoaxes about Covid-19 handling during the implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM). "So far there are 351 active social medias take have been taken down, with 1,237 reports," Head of General Information Division explained, Friday, (07/23/2021). As for the details, there are 14 Regional Police included in the priority category and the remaining 18 Regional Police handle balance category. According to Head of General Information Division, in Regional Police areas that becomes priority, there are 334 accounts that have been blocked. North Sumatera Regional Police has the most blocked accounts. There are 148 accounts. East Java Regional Police blocked 122 accounts, Bali Regional Police blocked 18 accounts, Central Java Regional Police blocked 17 accounts, West Java Regional Police blocked 11 accounts, Banten Regional Police blocked 6 accounts, Yogyakarta Regional Police blocked 6 accounts. Furthermore, Riau Islands Regional Police blocked 2 accounts, East Kalimantan Regional Police blocked 2 accounts, Riau Regional Police blocked 1 account and Greater Jakarta Metropolitan Police blocked 1 account. "The other four priority Regional Police are null," he explained. Then, Imbangan Regional Police blocked 16 accounts. Bengkulu Regional Police, South Kalimantan Regional Police, West Sulawesi Regional Police, each blocked 1 account, North Kalimantan Regional Police blocked 4 accounts. Then, North Sulawesi Regional Police have 3 accounts reported as abusive account, South Sumatera Regional Police and Maluku Regional Police, each blocked 1 account and South Sulawesi Regional Police blocked 4 accounts. "At the other imbangan Regional Police, there are no cases,” he said.
