Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In the ongoing fight against corruption in Indonesian football, the Anti-Mafia Football Task Force has named on Thursday (12/10/2023) two addition suspects in match-fixing within Liga 2 case.
Chief of the Task Force, Inspector General Edi Suheri, announced that the suspects, identified by their initials VW and DR, were suspected for manipulating a football match involving two clubs, identified as X and Y, back in November 2018.
"VW, a former club owner, and DR, the financier, played key roles in the match-fixing incident," he said in his statement.
The investigation showed that DR provided funds to VW to secure a win for club Y. Meanwhile, VW, as the club owner, tried to influence the match's outcome by approaching match officials and offering incentives for club Y's victory.
"DR's role was financial backing. The funds were meant for VW to manipulate and ensure club Y's victory," Kasatgas explained.
The investigative team also named a referee, identified by his initial AR, as a person under investigation.
This development followed a report in July 2023, leading to a thorough investigation uncovering compelling evidence of wrongdoing.
