Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta Budi Waseso, the Head of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog), commonly known as Buwas, has called upon law enforcement agencies to take legal action against individuals spreading false information concerning rice across various social media platforms.
The misinformation primarily centers on allegations that Bulog has been distributing toxic and even plastic rice, a potentially harmful scenario that he vehemently denies.
Buwas has emphasized that these false information were not only untrue but also constituted a breach of the law and a serious criminal offense, insisting that apologies will not suffice, and legal action is necessary.
For the past two weeks, photos and short video clips purportedly showcasing toxic and plastic rice have been shared extensively through various social media channels. Such discoveries have been made not only in the capital, Jakarta but also in regions such as Muara Enim, Palembang, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra.
Buwas, a former high-ranking police general, categorically asserts that the allegations ertr entirely baseless. He underlined that the rice under Bulog's purview, especially that which has been distributed to the public, has undergone rigorous clinical testing at food health laboratories and is safe for consumption.
Prior to this incident, Bulog had distributed a total of 1.7 million tons of rice as of October 2023. The distribution consisted of 1.67 million tons from the Government Rice Reserve (CBP) and approximately 69,000 tons from commercial stock. This rice was allocated for the implementation of the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program and government assistance to 2.2 million beneficiaries in the Family Beneficiary Category (KPM).
