Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Barelang Sub-regional Police have confirmed that a major fire at the PT ASL Shipyard Indonesia facility in Tanjung Uncang on Sunday (25/1/2026) resulted in no fatalities or injuries.
The blaze broke out at approximately 2 pm on the vessel Elnusa Trans Samudera during a routine docking for repairs. Emergency response teams from the shipyard and BP Batam battled the flames for two hours before successfully extinguishing the fire by 4 pm.
"There were no casualties in this afternoon's incident," stated Barelang City Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Anggoro Wicaksono, as quoted by antaranews.com
Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was triggered by a system failure, which quickly escalated due to high winds. Forensic units from the Batu Aji Police and Barelang Headquarters are currently on-site conducting a thorough data collection to determine the exact cause.
This incident came after two tragic fires at the same shipyard in 2025, which resulted in 18 deaths and led to the criminal prosecution of several domestic and foreign officials for negligence.
