Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Central Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police have deployed special units to prevent clashes between supporters of the Jakarta gubernatorial candidates during the first election debate on Sunday night (6/10/2024).

“We want to ensure that there is no friction between supporters,” said Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Superintendent Susatyo Purnomo Condro at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) in Kemayoran.

To anticipate any potential issues, separate units have been assigned to each candidate pair. Candidate pair number 1, Ridwan Kamil-Suswono, has 175 officers stationed; candidate pair number 2, Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana, has 164 officers; and candidate pair number 3, Pramono Anung-Rano Karno, has 159 officers.

Although only around 110 supporters per candidate are officially invited, the police expect larger crowds.

“Previous events saw up to 500-600 supporters despite the limited invitations,” Chief Susatyo said, as quoted by antaranews.com..

Security checks will be strict, with officers verifying IDs and screening attendees for weapons or dangerous items.

A total of 1,634 personnel from various agencies, including the Indonesian Military (TNI) and the Jakarta administration, were on duty to ensure safety.
