inp.polri.go.id - South Sumatra. The  Directorate of General Crimes of South Sumatra Regional Police, successfully dismantled a motorcycle theft group operating in 44 different locations in Palembang.

Four suspects were arrested, one of whom was shot with live ammunition for resisting arrest.

The Head of Public Relations for the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, stated that this disclosure began with a report of the theft of Irwan's Honda Beat motorcycle in the Talang Kelapa Housing Complex, Alang-Alang Lebar District, on July 5, 2025.

"In this case, four suspects were apprehended along with several pieces of evidence, including the proceeds of the crime, and the equipment used in the crime," he said, as reported by the rmolsumsel website, Thursday (7/24/2025).

The four perpetrators arrested were identified as IS, also known as Iwan Kopok, AS, also known as Budu, MR, and IM. Investigations revealed that they played different roles in each theft.

"Suspect IS was the executor, breaking into the victim's gate and motorcycle lock. AS was responsible for delivering the stolen goods and guarding the location. Meanwhile, MR and IM were responsible for selling the stolen goods," he explained.

Based on the case development, it was revealed that this gang had stolen from at least 44 different locations in Palembang, including Kertapati, Plaju, Jakabaring, Sekanak, Lemabang, and even markets and shopping centers. Kertapati was even targeted 10 times by this group.

"This is not a new group. They are highly organized and target specific types of vehicles, particularly the Honda Beat, which is considered easy to break into. Their actions are very fast, taking only minutes," he explained.

Police seized evidence from the suspects, including a modified Y-shaped wrench, a file, a special screwdriver bit, a broken padlock, a stolen motorcycle, and cash from the sale.

The perpetrators are currently being held at the South Sumatra Regional Police Headquarters and charged under Article 363 of the Criminal Code, which is aggravated theft.
