inp.polri.go.id - East Nusa Tenggara. The night at the Bekek refugee camp in Tadho Tengah Village, Riung District, Ngada Regency, felt different on Saturday (8/29/2026). Amidst the lingering anxiety of the post-earthquake, the presence of the National Police Field Kitchen provided something simple but meaningful: warm food and compassion.
Ngada Sub-regional Police personnel, through Operation Aman Nusa II Turangga 2026, prepared and distributed warm meals to refugees displaced by the Flores earthquake.
The East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police Head of Public Relation, Senior Superintendent Henry Novika Chandra, stated that the presence of the field kitchen was part of the police's commitment to continue supporting the community during the emergency situation.
"We want to ensure that disaster-affected communities do not feel alone. The presence of personnel in evacuation centers is not only to maintain security, but also to provide services and help meet the community's basic needs," said Henry.
For the evacuees, the warm meals distributed that night were more than just food. After enduring days of uncertainty caused by the earthquake, the food prepared shows police concern for the people.
The field kitchen also provided a space for personnel to interact with refugees, listening to their troubles and monitoring their ongoing needs while in evacuation centers.
The Ngada Sub-regional Police ensured that services to the community were carried out in collaboration with local government elements, the Indonesian National Military (TNI), and other relevant parties. This collaboration is a crucial part of disaster management, ensuring that community needs can be responded to quickly and appropriately.
The NTT Regional Police Chief, through Henry, emphasized that disaster management requires collaborative and ongoing support, not only when the initial aid arrives, but also for as long as the community continues to need support to recover.
"We urge the community to remain strong and help each other. Please inform officers if there are any urgent needs at the evacuation site. The police, along with all relevant elements, will continue to strive to provide the best possible service during the recovery process," he said.
