Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)’s Directorate of Certain Crimes said Sunday (24/5/2026) that no evidence of deliberate human action has been found in the mass blackout that struck Sumatra on Friday.

“So far, there is no indication of intentional human involvement in the conductor failure,” said Brigadier General Moh. Irhamni, the Director of Certain Crimes, after deploying a team to inspect the damaged 275 kV transmission line in Muara Jambi.

Evidence has been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory and PLN for further analysis, according to antaranews.com.

State electricity company PLN confirmed the outage was triggered by extreme weather affecting the Muaro Bungo–Sungai Rumbai transmission system. The disruption cascaded across Sumatra’s grid, impacting 13.1 million customers. By May 23, more than 8.5 million had power restored, with 3,431 MW of capacity recovered.

Authorities continue efforts to stabilize the system and strengthen infrastructure reliability to prevent future incident
