Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. Muara Enim's sub-regional police launched an investigation into the deadly collapse of a flyover bridge, crushing a train on Thursday (7/3/2024).
"We're probing the exact cause of the collapse," said Muara Enim Police Chief, Superintendent Jhoni Eka Putra, as reported by antaranews.com
He emphasized a scientific investigation, dismissing speculation about railway track vibrations or other factors, awaiting the crime scene investigation results.
The meticulous investigation involves witness and expert statements.
Acting Regent of Muara Enim, Ahmad Rizali, confirmed two deaths and seven injuries.
The deceased were identified as Edi Saputra from Pegayut Village, Ogan Ilir Regency, and Weston from Makassar, South Sulawesi, both construction workers on-site.
Rizali said the injured victims are being treated at AR Bunda Prabumulih Hospital and Rabain Muara Enim Hospital.
The flyover bridge collapse happened during girder installation at the Bantaian crossing on Gunung Megang-Penanggiran road, Muara Enim Regency, around 11 am Thursday.
