inp.polri.go.id - Cengkareng. Police have successfully raided an illegal cellphone assembly facility located in a Green Court shophouse in Cengkareng, West Jakarta.

In a single week, the perpetrators were able to assemble up to 5,000 cellphones by refurbishing damaged devices using spare parts imported from China.

The raid uncovered a cellphone sales and counterfeiting syndicate operating out of a three-story shophouse in the Green Court housing complex in Cengkareng.

The case came to light after complaints from members of the public who had purchased branded phones at low prices through online platforms.

The investigation revealed that the syndicate had been operating the illegal cellphone assembly operation for the past two years.

The perpetrators used spare parts from used Chinese cellphones imported illegally through a company in Batam, Riau Islands. In one week, they could produce approximately 5,100 refurbished cellphones of various brands.

"They assembled the phones using refurbished materials. In short, they were mostly using used goods," said Trade Minister Budi Santoso, as reported by Lintas iNews on Monday (8/4/2025).

In addition to finding phones ready for sale, officers also confiscated various other accessories from the shop. The state is estimated to have suffered losses of up to IDR 1 billion due to this practice of selling counterfeit phones.
