Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Bengkong Sector Police in Riau Islands Province conducted a raid on a house suspected to be used as a shelter for 11 potential illegal Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Bengkong. Two individuals identified as YU, 37-year-old, and AR, 50-year-old, were arrested and designated as suspects. Both suspects occupy managerial roles, Police Senior Inspector Muhammad Rizqy, the Chief of Bengkong Sector Police, clarified. "Their intended destination was Singapore," he said on Friday (8/4/2023). This disclosure stemmed from information regarding an illegal shelter for potential PMIs. Following the information, Bengkong Sector Police promptly launched an investigation. "Upon entering the house, several women believed to be prospective PMIs were discovered. Upon verification, the absence of official documentation for facilitating PMI migration was evident, thus confirming the shelter's unlawful nature. These potential PMIs hailed from various regions across Indonesia, including Java, Sulawesi, and other areas," he explained. Furthermore, the interrogation of the two suspects revealed that YU was responsible for overseeing the potential PMIs, while AR was the owner of the house and responsible for picking up the potential PMIs from Hang Nadim Airport upon their arrival in Batam. "AR has facilitated the departure of numerous potential PMIs to Singapore via the Batam Centre International Port. These potential PMIs migrants depart using tourist passports," he stated. Currently, the police are actively pursuing further developments concerning individuals involved in this network, he concluded. (ndt/pr/nm)
