inp.polri.go.id - Riau. The Riau Regional Police have uncovered 29 cases of illegal gold mining from January to April 2026 in the jurisdiction of the Kuantan Singingi Sub-regional Police. 

This disclosure was made as a form of the police's commitment to cracking down on illegal mining activities that are considered to damage the environment and violate the law.

The Vice Chief of the Riau Regional Police, Brigadier General Hengki Haryadi, explained that handling illegal gold minning cases is not only carried out through repressive measures, but also with a preventive approach through the concept of green policing. 

According to him, educational and preventive measures are important so that the community does not re-engage in illegal mining activities.

"The approach we are taking is not only repressive, but also through a green policing strategy by prioritizing education and prevention so that people are no longer involved in this illegal activity," said Hengki, Saturday (4/25/2026).

Director of Special Criminal Investigation of the Riau Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Ade Kuncoro Ridwan revealed that of the 29 cases, his team has named 54 people as suspects. In addition, officers also took action at 210 illegal mining locations, destroying 1,167 illegal mining rafts and various other supporting equipment.

"This action not only targets the perpetrators, but also the facilities used in mining activities so that the chain of illegal activity can be broken. We are also taking action against the misuse of subsidized fuel that supports illegal mining, including confiscating approximately 4.5 tons of subsidized diesel and securing two suspects," concluded Ade.
