inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The West Pontianak Sector Police responded quickly to a report filed by a child who had walked approximately two kilometers to the police station to seek help for his mother, who was suspected of being a victim of domestic violence (KDRT).

This incident illustrates the importance of a responsive police presence capable of providing a sense of security for the community, including children in need.

Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of Public Information for the Indonesian National Police (INP) Public Relations Division, stated that the rapid response to the public report is part of the police's commitment to providing protection, especially for vulnerable groups such as women and children.

"We want to ensure that the community, including children, feel safe and protected when they need help. This child's courage to seek help should be a shared concern, and also reminds us that the community needs to feel close to the police and not be afraid to report a crime," Trunoyudo said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday (10/22/2026).

The incident occurred on Monday (10/19/2026). After receiving the report, police personnel immediately arrived at the scene on Komyos Sudarso Road, Gang Kenari 2, West Pontianak. Officers found the victim, identified as N, in shock and suffering from a cut on her lip. According to the victim, she allegedly was beaten by her husband.

The victim was then taken to the West Pontianak Sector Police to file a complaint and undergo an examination. She was also examined at Bhayangkara Hospital. The victim's husband is still being sought by police as he has not returned since the incident. The case is ongoing, with a mediation plan that will continue to address the victim's well-being and protection.

Trunoyudo added that this incident aligns with INP Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto's hope that children should feel safe, comfortable, and protected when they see the police, rather than afraid.

"Our chief hopes that we can be the figures who provide a sense of security for children. Therefore, every officer’s presence must be able to provide a sense of safety and comfort through our responsiveness to reports and ready to assist those in need," he said.

Through the Police with the Community initiative, INP encourages all elements of society to care for each other and not hesitate to report suspected violence in their neighborhoods. This shared concern and prompt response to seeking help are expected to help protect victims and prevent further violence.
