inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Agency stated that manipulating photos with obscene or immoral content is a criminal offense.
This warning relates to the content of private photos without the owner's consent on social media platform X using the Grok AI feature.
The Director of Cyber Crimes, Brigadier General Himawan Bayu Aji, emphasized that this AI action falls under the category of deepfake, which is currently being investigated by the police.
"So, technological developments are indeed moving towards artificial intelligence, including deepfakes that use AI. That's why we are currently investigating in that direction," said Brigadier General Himawan during a press conference on Wednesday (January 7, 2026).
Himawan emphasized that if it is proven that someone else manipulated electronic data in a photo without the owner's consent, it can be prosecuted.
"As long as it can be clarified that it was electronic data manipulation, it is a criminal offense," he explained.
