Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. In anticipation of increased traffic during the Christmas and New Year holidays, the Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps is set to implement electronic citations to crack down on traffic violators.
Commissioner General Eddy Djunaedi, the Head of Operations at the Traffic Corps, said on Friday (15/12/2023) that manual citations will be temporarily suspended during this period, antaranews.com.
"We want to emphasize that there will be no manual citations," he said, referring to the recent decision of INP Chief General Polisi Listyo Sigit Prabowo.
The move aimed to streamline and expedite traffic enforcement while ensuring the safety and orderliness of roadways during the festive season. The electronic traffic law enforcement system, already deployed in various regions across Indonesia, will be employed for this purpose.
"We will optimize the use of the electronic traffic system to maintain traffic discipline," General Eddy said.
In a hearing at the House of Representatives, the INP disclosed the existing infrastructure, including 433 static cameras, five mobile weight-in-motion cameras, 806 mobile handheld cameras, and 65 mobile on-board cameras. However, there is an acknowledged need for additional ETLE cameras to enhance traffic monitoring and enforcement.
