inp.polri.go.id - Tulungagung. The Tulungagung Sub-regional Police, East Java, have uncovered a suspected methamphetamine trafficking network controlled from within the Class IIA Kediri Penitentiary by confiscating 26 packages of methamphetamine weighing a total of 7.64 grams from one of the inmate housing blocks.

Tulungagung Sub-regional Police Chief, Superintendent Wiwin Junianto Supriyadi, stated in a press conference that the network was uncovered with the arrest of a man identified as R in Gesikan Village, Pakel District, Tulungagung, on Tuesday (10/27/2026) at around 8:00 a.m.

Officers from the Tulungagung Sub-regional Police Narcotics Investigation Unit seized 418.4 grams of methamphetamine from R.

Based on initial investigation, R is suspected of acting as a courier who was promised a reward of IDR 20 million, but only received IDR 6 million.

After arresting the courier, the police expanded their investigation to uncover the network of drug suppliers and controllers.

"The investigation led to the suspected involvement of an inmate at the Class IIA Kediri Penitentiary," he said at Tulungagung Sub-regional Police Headquarters on Monday (11/2/2026).

The police then coordinated with the Kediri Sub-regional Police and the Kediri City Sub-regional Police to further investigate.

A joint operation was conducted on Saturday (10/31/2026) by searching one of the inmate housing areas in Block C, No. 7.

During the search, officers found 26 packages of methamphetamine weighing a total of 7.64 grams and a cell phone suspected of being used to communicate in drug trafficking activities.

Officers also conducted urine tests on several inmates in the housing block. Six inmates tested positive for methamphetamine.

Of the six inmates, one inmate, identified as DR (31), is suspected of controlling the methamphetamine distribution network in Tulungagung.

"DR is suspected of controlling the methamphetamine distribution network in Tulungagung," he said.

Wiwin explained that DR is a repeat offender in narcotics cases who has served three prison sentences. DR and R are also known to have known each other from their time in Madiun Prison.

Based on preliminary investigation results, DR is suspected of controlling the distribution of methamphetamine using a cell phone smuggled into the prison.
