inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Asia Pacific Action Alliance on Human Resources for Health (AAAH), held the 14th AAAH Conference in Bali, involving networks from 22 countries, to strengthen collaboration to address the shortage and unequal distribution of health workers.

Vice Minister of Health Benjamin Paulus Octavianus stated that investing in human resources for health must be a priority for every country. He stated that a well-trained, skilled, and dedicated health workforce is the foundation for achieving quality health services.

"We need stronger governance, better health education, and digital transformation. We must also strengthen regional cooperation, share knowledge, and learn from each other's experiences," he said in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/3/2026)..

Themed "Building the Future Health Workforce: Connecting Governance, Education, and Digital Transformation for a Sustainable Health System," the conference provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experiences for approximately 200 participants, including policymakers, educators, health professionals, and development partners.

He expressed his hope that the conference would generate practical ideas and concrete commitments to developing the future health workforce. Indonesia, he continued, is ready to strengthen cooperation with countries in the region to address various challenges in developing health human resources.

Similarly, AAAH Chair Anna Kurniati, who also serves as Secretary of the Directorate General of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, stated that healthcare workers currently face increasingly complex challenges.

"These challenges include an increasing elderly population, a high burden of non-communicable diseases, the emergence of new infectious diseases, the impact of climate change, and global inequality," she said.

Globally, Anna said, the shortage of healthcare workers is projected to reach around 10 million by 2030, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
