In a speech at a meeting with businesspeople from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) President Prabowo stated that Indonesia inherited the foreign policy principles of non-alignment from the nation's founding fathers, who chose not to side with any bloc or military pact.
According to Prabowo, this principle remains the foundation of Indonesian diplomacy to this day.
"We are grateful that our country has a legacy from our founding fathers. That legacy is a non-aligned foreign policy, meaning we do not want to join any military bloc," said President Prabowo at the State Palace in Jakarta on Friday (7/31/2026).
The Head of State emphasized that since the beginning of his administration, he has prioritized a policy of making Indonesia a good neighbor to all countries.
President Prabowo acknowledged that several border issues facing Southeast Asian countries are a legacy of the colonial era.
However, the President emphasized that all these issues must be resolved through dialogue and peaceful means.
While acknowledging that the dispute resolution process is not always easy due to the competing interests of each party, President Prabowo emphasized that Indonesia must prioritize wisdom and not be easily provoked.
"I realize that Indonesia is the largest country, so we must be wiser, we must be more patient, and we must not be provoked. So that's what we inherited: non-alignment," said the President.
Prabowo also reiterated Indonesia's neutral stance in its relations with various major powers.
According to Prabowo, a neutral stance and maintaining good relations with all countries are part of Indonesia's strategy to maintain regional stability and support the creation of peace amidst a global situation still plagued by various conflicts and uncertainties.
