Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo urged Indonesians to take pride in batik, the nation's cultural gem, during the 'Istana Berbatik' event held at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday evening (1/10/23). The President emphasized that batik transcends mere artwork and embodies intangible cultural heritage unique to Indonesia. During the celebration of National Batik Day on October 2, hosted by the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, President Jokowi called for the conservation and advancement of this cherished art form. The 'Istana Berbatik' exhibit, the President said, unveiled Indonesian batik pieces, each carrying profound philosophical meaning and showcasing exquisite aesthetics. Angela Tanoesodibjo, Vice Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy and Chair of the "Istana Berbatik" Committee, highlighted how the event illustrates batik's integral role in Indonesian life across generations, contributing to the nation's cultural diplomacy. "Throughout this event, we will witness how batik has been interwoven with Indonesian life across generations, and how it has played a pivotal role in Indonesia's cultural diplomacy," she said. The fashion show featured high-quality batik from various kingdoms, supported by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) aided by Bank Indonesia and Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), along with creations from Indonesian fashion designers. The 150-meter-long runway, set against Merdeka Palace, featured 503 special models, including royal representatives, heads of state institutions, ambassadors, cabinet ministers, public figures, and models. The event garnered an attendance of 4.000, offering a fashion show, dance performances, and a showcase of batik MSMEs in support of the nation's youth.
She expressed her optimism that the event would significantly boost batik's popularity, stating, "We hope that this event will inspire people to create and wear it more frequently, ensuring its sustainability and prosperity." (inp/ar/pr/nm)
