Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Transportation has officially issued a permit for the public railway facilities of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (KCJB).
This operating permit was issued through the Decree of the Minister of Transportation No. KM 114 of 2023, specifically addressing the Operating Permits for Public Railway Facilities of PT Kereta Api Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC).
Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi affirmed that KCIC has met all the operational requirements necessary for the high-speed train, leading to the issuance of this operating permit.
"The successful completion of all tests and certifications has paved the way for the issuance of this operating license, enabling KCIC to immediately embark on its commercial activities," said Minister Budi on Sunday (1/10/23), adding that the KCIC services will be introduced gradually, with a close evaluation process in place until the ultimate goal of 68 daily trips is reached.
A connecting train service has been arranged from Padalarang Station to Bandung Station to enhance passenger convenience. The gradual rollout is being implemented to allow operators the time to make any necessary adjustments and improvements to their services, he said.
The Department of Transportation plans to offer initial discounts for KCIC operations in order to attract public interest. Following the granting of the operating license, KCIC is expected to launch its commercial operations, which will soon be inaugurated by President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo.
"We anticipate that KCJB will be utilized by the public, thereby positively influencing the country's economic growth," said the Minister.
Additionally, the Minister announced that KCJB will now be branded as 'Whoosh' after winning a competition conducted by an assessment team. The name 'Whoosh' reflects the swift sound that trains make, recognized worldwide. It perfectly aligns with the high-speed reputation of being the fastest in Southeast Asia today.
'Whoosh' embodies the essence of high-speed trains with its meaning: "Time Saving, Optimal Operation, Reliable System."
KCJB marks the inaugural high-speed train service in Southeast Asia and Indonesia, boasting top speeds of up to 350 km/h. The train will link four stations - Halim, Karawang, Padalarang, and Tegalluar - spanning a total length of 142,3 km, including 13 tunnels.
To enhance accessibility, KCJB will also integrate with the Jabodebek LRT, feeder trains, Commuter Line Bandung Raya, bus rapid transit, shuttles, and taxis.
