Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the 192 megawatt peak (MWp) Cirata floating solar power plant in Purwakarta Regency, West Java on Thursday (9/11/2023). "This marks the establishment of one of the largest floating solar power plants in Southeast Asia and the third largest in the world," said the President during the ceremony, which was attended by Minister of State-Owned Enterprises  Erick Thohir and representatives from Masdar Company. This achievement, made possible through the collaboration of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the state-owned electricity company PLN and Masdar Company of the United Arab Emirates, fulfilled Indonesia's ambition to create large-scale renewable energy facilities. President Jokowi emphasised that the Cirata floating solar power plant will increase the current power generation capacity of the local hydropower plant, which currently stands at 1,000 megawatts . Expressing his satisfaction, President Jokowi welcomed the integration of both power plants into Cirata, envisioning a substantial supply of green energy. "In the future, we can use hydropower for green energy. Witnessing the successful completion of the floating solar power plant in Cirata fills me with joy and pride," he said. Acknowledging a major challenge in setting up renewable energy power plants, the President highlighted the distance of these sources from the areas in need of electricity. To overcome this, he stressed the importance of a robust transmission infrastructure linking each energy source to economic centres. "The potential for renewable energy in Sumatra, Kalimantan and Sulawesi can effectively power economic centres," he affirmed. (ar/inp/pr/nm)
