Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko Widodo met with Freeport McMoRan Chairman Richard Adkerson during his visit to Washington DC on Monday (14/11/2023) and expressed his satisfaction with the discussions on increasing Freeport's Indonesian stake and extending the mining permit.
"I am pleased to hear that discussions on increasing Freeport's shareholding by 10% and extending its mining concession by 20 years are in the final stages," President Jokowi said.
Erick Thohir, Interim Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, highlighted the growing Indonesia-US relationship, particularly in trade, with a trade surplus of nearly $16 billion and increasing American investment, antaranews.com reported.
During the meeting, Freeport discussed downstream initiatives, including the construction of smelters. Mr Erick praised Freeport's commitment to build another smelter and emphasised the positive outcomes for increased foreign investment and job creation in Indonesia.
The President was accompanied by ministers and officials, including Tony Wenas, CEO of PT Freeport Indonesia.
