Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo acknowledges that he does not take issue with the sharp criticisms frequently directed at him by the press. "In newspapers, magazines, and social media, I often encounter sharp criticism and peculiar depictions of my face. It's peculiar, but it doesn't bother me," stated President Jokowi during his address at the peak of the National Press Day Commemoration 2024 in Jakarta on Tuesday (20/2/2024). He revealed that it's his grandchildren who often voice objections to unconventional portrayals of his face. "They call me 'Grandpa' and ask, 'Why does Grandpa look so bad?' However, this simply underscores my commitment to press freedom, freedom of expression, and freedom of opinion," he said. During this year's National Press Day themed "Safeguarding the Transition of National Leadership and Preserving National Integrity", he reiterated the government's dedication to fostering a flexible press landscape while safeguarding press freedom amidst digital challenges. Joining the President are the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Muhadjir Effendy, the Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, the Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, the Chief of INP Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, the Commander of the Indonesian Military General Agus Subiyanto, and the Speaker of the People's Consultative Assembly Bambang Soesatyo.
