Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto has no objections to the display of pirate flags from the Japanese manga One Piece, so long as it remains a form of expression and is not placed in opposition to Indonesia’s national flag.

“If it’s just an expression, it’s okay. But don’t compare or confront it with the Red and White. That’s our only national flag,” said State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi on Tuesday (5/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The statement came amid a surge in One Piece flag displays across Indonesia ahead of the 80th Independence Day on 17 August 2025. The fictional flag, featuring a grinning skull with a straw hat, has sparked debate, but the government insists there are no police or military crackdowns related to it.

State Secretary Prasetyo reminded the public not to misuse the moment, especially in August, urging youth to respect the Red and White flag as a symbol of unity and sacrifice.
