Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, asserted Tuesday (5/8/2025) that rising online shopping transactions reflect steady consumer purchasing power despite public concerns.
“Retail and marketplace transactions grew 7.55 percent quarter-to-quarter in Q2 2025,” he said, citing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).
He added that the nation’s economy expanded 5.12 percent year-on-year in the same quarter, according to antaranews.com.
While specific figures for Q1 and Q2 were not disclosed, Minister Airlangga noted that online shopping transactions in 2024 totaled 3.24 billion, which is an elevenfold increase from 2018.
The rise was driven by growing demand for personal care and cosmetics (Rp 67.6 trillion, up 16.95% yoy) and household and office products (Rp 72.8 trillion, up 29.38% yoy).
He also highlighted profit and revenue growth of over 5% in H1 2025 for key retailers: AMRT (Alfamart), MAPI (SOGO, ZARA), and MAPA (Sports Station, Kidz Station).
He dismissed public narratives suggesting weak consumption, known locally as “Rohana” and “Rojali”, as exaggerated.
