Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  President Prabowo Subianto has canceled his planned state visit to Beijing, where he was scheduled to attend a military parade on 3 September 2025  and hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The announcement was made by State Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson Prasetyo Hadi, who explained that the president decided to remain in Indonesia to personally oversee efforts to calm rising tensions following a series of violent protests across major cities.

“Due to the situation in the country, the President wants to monitor developments directly and lead in seeking the best resolutions. With humility, he has expressed his apologies to the Government of China,” he said in an official broadcast Saturday night (30/8/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.

President Prabowo had scheduled attending the Beijing event, which would also host 25 other world leaders, including Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, as part of the 80th-anniversary commemoration of China’s victory in WWII.

The decision also weighed against Prabowo’s upcoming international agenda, notably his confirmed attendance at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York on 23 September 2025.

The domestic unrest refers to protests that escalated in Jakarta and other cities, triggered by public anger over legislators’ housing allowances and the death of 21-year-old ride-hailing driver Affan Kurniawan, who was fatally run over by a police armored vehicle during clashes near the House of Representatives (DPR) on August 28.
