Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Social media platform TikTok has voluntarily disabled its LIVE streaming feature in Indonesia starting Saturday evening (30/8/2025), following a surge in broadcasts of protest scenes across the country over the past week.
According to a company statement, the move was taken as an additional safety measure to keep the platform a secure space for users.
“As part of this step, we voluntarily suspended TikTok LIVE for several days in Indonesia. We continue removing content that violates our Community Guidelines and are monitoring the situation closely,” said a TikTok spokesperson, as quoted by antaranews.com
Users quickly noticed the change. Reports on Downdetector Indonesia showed complaints began around 6.21 pm with 29 cases, rising to 174 reports at 9.16 pm. Instead of accessing LIVE, users encountered error messages.
Even when searched manually, the LIVE tab showed no results. Frustrated users voiced concerns on X (formerly Twitter), with many linking the suspension to ongoing mass protests.
The demonstrations, which started in Jakarta on 25 August 2025, were initially driven by demands for the House of Representatives (DPR) allowance transparency, legislative accountability, and rejection of controversial bills. Tensions escalated after raid hailing driver Affan Kurniawan, 21 year-old, was killed when run over by a police armored vehicle on Thursday, fueling nationwide outrage.
