Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto held a 3.5-hour discussion with former presidents, vice presidents, and political leaders at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday night (3/3/2026) to address the deteriorating situation in the Persian Gulf.
The meeting focused on the geopolitical and economic fallout of the U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran and the subsequent retaliatory attacks across the Gulf states. Former Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda, who attended the session, noted that the President is preparing for a "multi-rock navigation" in global diplomacy.
"The discussion centered on our position in a world where the 'rule-based order' is failing and the UN appears powerless against major powers," he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
A primary concern is the potential for a prolonged conflict if ground troops are deployed, which would severely disrupt global oil and gas supply chains. Given that the Strait of Hormuz is currently facing an effective closure, the President emphasized that Indonesia must ready its economic defenses.
Notable attendees included former Presidents Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo, as well as former Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla, Boediono, and Ma'ruf Amin.
