Inp.polri.go.id - New York. President Prabowo Subianto awarded Bill Gates a national honor in recognition of his longstanding contributions to Indonesia, particularly through the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
The two met briefly in New York on Tuesday after Prabowo’s speech at the UN General Assembly.
The president praised Gates for supporting research, seed development, medicines, and vaccines in Indonesia, with direct aid valued at Rp 7 to 8 trillion ($430–490 million). He noted the broader impact is estimated at $4.5 billion. Gates’ foundation continues to work with Indonesian partners, including Prabowo’s Danantara initiative, on projects targeting poverty alleviation, hunger, and education access.
President Prabowo emphasized that education is “the key to our future.” The honor is among the highest Indonesia can bestow on a foreign citizen for humanitarian service.
