Inp.polri.go.id - New York. President Prabowo Subianto used his speech at the 80th UN General Assembly in New York to reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s dismissal of climate change, calling it a real and urgent threat.
President Trump had described climate change as the “greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world.”
“As the world’s largest archipelagic state, we have already felt its direct impact, particularly the rising sea levels. On the northern coast of our capital, the sea rises by five centimeters every year. Imagine the height in 10 years, in 20 years,” President Prabowo said before more than a hundred heads of state and delegates on Tuesday (23/9/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
He announced Indonesia is building a 480-kilometer giant sea wall along Java’s northern coast, a project expected to take two decades.
President Prabowo also reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to the Paris Agreement, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2060 or sooner, while expanding renewable energy and reforesting 12 million hectares of degraded land.
