inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated the smelter or precious metal refining plant (PMR) owned by PT Freeport Indonesia in the Gresik Special Economic Zone (KEK), East Java, Monday (3/17/2025).
In inaugurating the smelter, the President was accompanied by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of SOEs Erick Thohir, then there was also President Director of PT Freeport Indonesia Tony Wenas, and Governor of East Java Khofifah Indar Parawansa.
"On this afternoon, March 17, 2025, I, Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia, hereby inaugurate the precious metal refining plant of PT Freeport Indonesia in Gresik, East Java," said President Prabowo.
President Prabowo emphasized the importance of the existence of a smelter capable of processing concentrate into precious metals such as gold and silver.
"This is truly something very important for our country and nation. This is what we want, that our country, our nation, will not only sell raw materials, but we also want to sell finished goods, final products that have very large added value," explained President Prabowo.
He then mentioned that the Freeport Indonesia smelter in Gresik is believed to be the largest precious metal refining plant in the world, especially the processing from upstream to downstream.
On the same occasion, the President also thanked Freeport Indonesia, and Freeport McMoran which has been operating in Indonesia for more than 50 years. Prabowo, in his speech, praised Freeport McMoran which is believed to have contributed to building the national economy.
