Inp.polri.go.id - Bogor. President Prabowo Subianto hosted leaders of 16 Islamic mass organizations at his Hambalang residence on Saturday (30/8/2025) to discuss national challenges and ways to maintain peace following days of violent protests sparked by police brutality.
“This meeting is a very positive and timely signal for our nation. In tense times, dialogue is the best path, instead of violence or vandalism that harms us all,” said Nasrullah Larada, the Chairman of the Indonesian Islamic Student Association (PII), after the gathering, as quoted by ataranews.com.
Representatives from Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), and other major Islamic organizations attended.
President Prabowo urged unity in preventing further unrest, while PII pledged to mobilize its members and youth to resist provocation.
Protests have intensified in Jakarta, Bandung, Makassar, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta after Affan Kurniawan, a 21-year-old ride-hailing driver, was killed when a police tactical vehicle ran him over during a crackdown.
