Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Joko Widodo urged the security authorities not to act repressively against the public, especially in relation to national strategic projects. "I always remind you not to use repressive approaches to the public," he said during  the opening ceremony of the 8th National Strategic Project (PSN) 2023 in Jakarta, Wednesday (13/9/2023). President Jokowi said he expected the public to be happy with the compensation package given by the government in national strategic projects. "(It should be named) profitable compensation because the price given is the best price. I have repeatedly emphasized that the purpose of the PSN is to benefit the people, not to harm the people," he said. One of the projects that the President observed was the project on Rempang Island in Riau Islands.  This particular project has linked to some protests in the past few days over the land use for the project. The President said that he had to phone the Indonesian National Police (INP) Chief General Listyo Sigit  Prabowo at midnight to inquire him about the issue. "I have conveyed the matter in Rempang Island. Last night, at midnight I phoned the INP Chief. This is just a miscommunication. Compensation is given, land is given, and houses are given, but maybe the location is not right. That should be resolved. Does such matters have to go to the president?" President Jokowi asked. If there are things that cannot be resolved in the field, according to the President, the local authorities should immediately report to the relevant directorate or minister. "If I ask  them, they say "ready, sir. 'It's done sir'. Done, done. 'Safe sir'.  However, at the end, (they would say) 'I'm sorry sir, it's not finished yet'. 'It can't be finished sir'," the President was quoted by antaranews.com as saying. It is also said that all problems actually have solution through proper discussions in a meeting. "Usually, if there is a problem, we have a meeting with the ministers, with the INP Chief, with the Indonesian Military Commander, and the problem is solved. We find a solution to every problem," he explained.
