The South Sumatra Regional Police intensified its response to forest and land fires through Operation Aman Nusa II in the Teluk Limau area, Sungai Rotan District, Muara Enim Regency, on Sunday (9/6/2026). Patrols, warnings, and extinguishing operations were carried out to prevent the fires from spreading to peatland areas.

A total of 19 joint personnel were deployed in the operation. The operation included patrols by seven personnel, warnings by seven personnel, and extinguishing operations involving 12 personnel.

Officers covered an area of ​​approximately 10 hectares, with an estimated six hectares of burned land. The characteristics of peat soil are a major concern, as fires have the potential to persist beneath the surface and re-ignite if extinguishing efforts are not carried out thoroughly.

In response, the team deployed one truck to support personnel mobilization and field activities. Officers also faced challenges due to the limited number of motorcycles available to reach some parts of the fire area.

Head of Public Relations of the South Sumatra Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Nandang Mu'min Wijaya, stated that intensive forest and land fire management continues, especially in areas with a high risk of fire spread.

"We are optimizing all aspects of forest and land fire management in the field. The priority is to prevent the fire from spreading, expedite extinguishing efforts, and ensure the safety of surrounding communities," said Nandang.

He stated that patrols and public awareness campaigns are also crucial in prevention efforts. These measures are taken to identify potential fires early and raise public awareness to protect the environment.

The South Sumatra Regional Police urge the public and corporations not to clear or clear land by burning. They are also asked to immediately report any smoke or signs of fire to the forest and land fire command post or the nearest authorities so that action can be taken as quickly as possible.
