inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) continues to strengthen wildfire prevention efforts by prioritizing preventive measures through direct public education.
Approximately 198 appointed police personnel are deployed to raise public awareness against clearing land by burning, while also providing an understanding of the dangers and impacts of wildfire on health, the environment, and the social and economic conditions of the community.
A total of 198 personnel are assigned to four priority regional police areas: 103 personnel to the West Kalimantan Regional Police, 48 personnel to the Central Kalimantan Regional Police, 10 personnel to the East Kalimantan Regional Police, and 37 personnel to the South Sumatra Regional Police.
In their assignment, personnel are to directly visit the communities to educate them through dialogue and guidance involving the community, community leaders, and other relevant stakeholders.
Head of Public Information Bureau of the INP Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko stated that the deployment of these students is part of the police's strategic initiative to strengthen forest and land fire prevention from the start.
"Of the 403 students, 198 personnel have been deployed to priority locations. They are tasked with providing education and raising public awareness so that wildfire prevention can be carried out from the start," Trunoyudo said in a statement in Jakarta on Sunday (8/30/2026).
He stated that prevention efforts cannot be carried out only when a fire has already broken out. Public awareness needs to be built early to prevent potential fires before they escalate into a larger disaster.
"Forest and land fires handling must be handled right from its roots. Public awareness must be built before a fire breaks out. Therefore, our personnel are directly sent to the community to remind them not to clear land by burning," he said.
Trunoyudo emphasized that forest and land fire management is carried out comprehensively, starting from prevention, education, monitoring, early detection, handling and extinguishing, and law enforcement.
