In a concerted effort to address the escalating threat of radical terrorism and the looming specter of a "Proxy War" within Indonesia's mining industry, state-owned PT Timah Tbk, in collaboration with the Indonesian National POlice (INP) Densus 88 Anti-Terror Squad, convened a national symposium in Pangkalpinang on Monday (2/10/2023).
Under the theme "The Threat of Radical Terrorism in the Life of the Nation and State: Background and Anticipation Efforts," the symposium brought together key stakeholders to discuss the alarming rise of extremism and terrorism within the nation's mining sites, spanning the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Riau Islands, and other locations.
"We are aware that Indonesia is currently facing a range of complex challenges,"Ahmad Dani Virsal, the President Director of PT Timah Tbk, was quoted by antaranews.com as saying.
Underscored the multifaceted challenges currently confronting Indonesia, he stressed the paramount importance of the dialogue initiated by the Densus 88 Anti-Terror Squad, given the historical precedents of unconventional threats to the country.
Ahmad cautioned that substantial foreign investments that could potentially become a jeopardize a vital national sector; foreign entities gaining control over and depleting natural resources, and foreign funding for research activities, which could inadvertently lead to conflicts.
The president director highlighted the importance of upholding patriotic ideals and contributing to national defense. He called on mining enterprises like PT Timah Tbk to maximize productivity and share the fruits of their labor with society and the government through taxes, royalties, and various forms of social assistance.
Tin mining remains a critical pillar of the economy in Bangka Belitung Province.
