Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. The Barelang Sub-Regional City Police have announced that the legal proceedings for some of the suspects involved in the riot at the BP Batam office on September 11, 2023, have entered phase 1, which involved the transfer of case files from investigators to prosecutors.
"Out of the 35 suspects, some remains in phase 1, while the rest are still under investigation," said Police Senior Superintendent Nugroho Tri Nuryanto, the Chief of Barelang Sub-Regional City Police, on Monday (2/10/23).
He explained that his office was still considering the results of the investigation by investigators regarding the suspension process of the suspect. Following their investigation, it was determined that out of the 35 individuals arrested, only seven were residents of Rempang.
""For these Rempang residents, their status is still under review by our investigators. Should there be any guidance from leadership regarding the suspension process, we will reconsider," he said.
The police chief extended an invitation to the the suspects' families, encouraging them to submit suspension request. "If any family wishes to submit a suspension request, please do so, but the suspension decision still lies with the investigator," he said.
In addition, the police also provides legal advocacy space, encompassing a range of actions aimed at providing legal assistance both within and beyond the confines of the courtroom, along with offering legal guidance to the suspects.
"We provide advocacy space as it is the suspect's right to receive legal assistance," he affirmed.
