inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Puan Maharani reminded the government to ensure strong national health resilience in response to the increasing trend of COVID-19 cases in several countries in Asia.

"In addition to taking anticipatory steps, the government needs to ensure that Indonesia has strong health resilience, so that when the worst case scenario occurs, we are ready for it," Puan said in a statement quoted from Antaranews in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/4/2025).

She said the government must be aware of the increase in cases by taking measured steps to protect the public, considering the reported case of COVID-19  to have also increased in Indonesia.

"The increase in COVID-19 cases that has occurred in the Asian region clearly cannot be taken lightly. The government must have a high sense of urgency and must not be careless," she said.

She also said that the discovery of an increase in positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia was a momentum to strengthen the early detection system and the country's health system.

"The government must also increase testing and tracking capacity, ensure adequate distribution of booster vaccines, and strengthen public education and communication consistently and transparently," she said.

With the increase in COVID-19 cases, she also urged the government to re-implement strict health screening at all international airports, especially for passengers from countries with increasing COVID-19 cases.

According to her, early detection is the main key to preventing the spread of the virus further.
