inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Head of the Domestic Policy Strategy Agency (BSKDN) of the Ministry of Home Affairs Yusharto Huntoyungo said that the essence of regional autonomy is achieving fiscal independence.
"The essence of granting regional autonomy is to create fiscal independence. Regions must be able to optimize local potential so as not to burden the central government, but instead become the driving force of national growth," said Yusharto in his statement quoted from Antaranews on Wednesday (6/4/2025).
He conveyed this in a meeting to discuss the regional autonomy policy strategy to formulate concrete steps to realize competitive, adaptive, and fiscal independence-oriented regional autonomy.
At the forum, the Head of BSKDN highlighted the importance of regional independence through increasing regional original income (PAD) so that dependence on the central government does not increase.
According to him, there are at least three main keys to the success of regional autonomy, namely the leadership of the regional government; the capacity of regional government administrators, including regional apparatus; and control and active participation of the community in development.
However, in the context of the digital era, Yusharto also emphasized the urgency of implementing an electronic-based government system (SPBE) as an instrument for transforming fast, responsive, and efficient public services.
"Regional innovation is one of the benchmarks for the success of autonomy in the modern era," said Yusharto.
He also emphasized that decentralization must be carried out in order to achieve the effectiveness of regional government administration, acceleration of improving community welfare, quality of public services, good governance, and preservation of local customs and culture.
