inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq urged the public to be more aware in sorting waste to support the success of the Waste to Energy (PSEL) program.
According to him, waste quality is a key factor in waste-based energy processing.
"This waste sorting is actually a transformational step towards waste to energy development. In waste to energy and Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF), quality waste is still required," said Hanif, Friday (4/24/2026).
He explained that full operation of waste to energy is projected to be underway in the next few years, in line with the readiness of the national waste sorting system.
In addition, the government is targeting the end of open dumping practices by 2026, with DKI Jakarta expected to be an example of better waste management implementation.
"Enforcing these norms is one of the keys to the success of the waste sorting movement towards ending open dumping practices," said Hanif.
He also asked local governments to tighten waste management supervision in commercial and industrial areas so they can manage their waste independently.
"The waste in these areas, including hotels, restaurants, cafes, industrial areas, and markets, must be managed independently," he said.
