The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has taken firm action against a Government Employee with the initials AS, who has been named a suspect for drug abuse by the Bandung Sub-regional City Police for cultivating marijuana plants at a house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, West Java.

PU Minister Dody Hanggodo emphasized that the Ministry fully respects the ongoing legal process. The Ministry will temporarily suspend the employee in accordance with applicable regulations.

"The PU Ministry respects the ongoing legal process. We have also taken administrative steps in accordance with applicable regulations against the employee concerned. We emphasize that every PU Ministry employee is obliged to maintain the integrity, discipline, and good name of the institution," Dody said in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday (9/19/2026).

The PU Ministry is committed to maintaining the integrity, professionalism, and discipline of all employees in carrying out public service and infrastructure development duties.

Previously, the pPolice uncovered a marijuana cultivation practice at a house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency, allegedly carried out by a PPPK employee with the initials AS (49).

Head of the Bandung Sub-regional City Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, Police Assistant Superintendent Oliesta Ageng Wicaksana, stated that the suspect works at the PU Ministry.

He said his personnel had monitored AS's activities while he was still at his office in Bandung City on Wednesday (9/16/2026) at around 4:00 PM. Officers then followed the suspect until he arrived at his residence in Cileunyi.

At around 6:30 PM, officers conducted a search of the suspect's home. While searching the backyard, police discovered a small garden planted with marijuana and various equipment to support the plants' growth.

In addition, police found 28 marijuana seedlings, approximately 10 days old, measuring 3-9 centimeters, and two clear plastic bags containing marijuana seeds.

To support the growth of the plants, the suspect used five ultraviolet (UV) lamps, pesticide spray, two bottles of pesticide liquid, two bottles of plant booster, pruning shears, and a Samsung cell phone.

Oliesta stated that based on the investigation, AS admitted to self-taught himself in marijuana cultivation and plant care techniques through YouTube videos, having done so since May 1, 2026.

During the investigation, AS admitted to growing the marijuana for personal consumption and distributing some of it freely to several of his friends. However, police are still investigating the possibility of drug sales and distribution activities.

AS is currently being detained at the Bandung Police Headquarters and charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 111 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.
