Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Jakarta High Court has upheld the sentence of 14 years imprisonment and a Rp500 million fine for former Directorate General of Taxation official Rafael Alun Trisambodo in a case involving gratification and money laundering. According to the appellate court's ruling, Rafael is required to pay restitution of Rp10 billion within one month, as reported by antaranews.com. The appellate decision was handed down by a panel of judges, presided over by Judge Tjokorda Rai Suamba on 7 March 2024.  Rafael was earlier sentenced by the Central Jakarta District Court on 8 January 2024. Rafael, who had resident from his position in the Finance Ministry, stood trial in this high-profile case, which commenced after his troubled son assaulted a teenager and received imprisonment in a separate trial. The court heard that Rafael had amassed tens of billions of rupiah from taxpayers who engaged his consulting firm, registered under various individuals. This firm aided taxpayers in reducing their tax payments, raising concerns about a conflict of interest with his responsibilities in the Tax Directorate. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
