Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Senior Superintendent Gidion Arif Setyawan, Chief of North Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police, highlighted the role of social media in promoting teenage brawls. "They form their own communities and often flaunt their actions on various social media accounts," he said on Friday (15/3/2024), as reported by antaranews.com. Chief Gidion emphasized that social media not only documents these brawls but also showcases the weapons used by these groups, such as large machetes, which have become symbols of pride. "We've identified these groups and are actively working to curb these brawling incidents," he added. The Chief noted that these brawls occur sporadically, with certain locations, like RE Martadinata street, being favored by teenagers for such activities. "This area has become a hotspot for large-scale fights among teenagers," he observed. Furthermore, Chief Gidion highlighted how social media fuels competition among these groups, each striving to assert dominance. To prevent criminal activities stemming from these brawls, the involvement of all parties, including parents and the community, is crucial. "We encourage parents and local communities to provide young people with positive activities to steer them away from such incidents," he said. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
