inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Religious Affairs is currently developing educational materials to prevent the spread of LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer) culture, which will be used in religious education units.

"We are creating educational materials. Our target is students. We are developing materials oriented towards providing students with understanding on the topic. Even more specifically, we are also considering how to incorporate the topic material to which school subjects, whether it be religion, civics, or other subjects," said Vice Minister of Religious Affairs Romo Muhammad Syafii, Tuesday (7/14/2026).

The preparation of these topic materials is being carried out through collaboration across Ministry of Religious Affairs work units, involving academics and experts.

Romo explained that the topic materials will use the term "spreading LGBT culture" as stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 111 of 2025.

According to him, the use of this term is intended to distinguish between individuals and the spread of ideologies or movements.

"The Presidential Regulation uses the term 'spreading LGBT culture,' not 'LGBT.' Because using LGBT terms alone means it refers to the  individuals, but when you add culture, it becomes a movement," said Romo.

He stated that the material was designed to strengthen students' understanding of the values of Pancasila, the constitution, and religious teachings, with an approach tailored to each level of education.

The material is structured based on the constitution, laws and regulations, and religious values that form the foundation of national life.

Romo stated that the substance of the material is still being formulated. Therefore, its preparation involves professors, academics, and experts to ensure that the resulting material is appropriate to the developmental level of students and can be effectively implemented at each level of education.

"We are considering how we can provide materials that are appropriate to the level of education so that they understand. So, we have been taking precautions from the start," concluded Romo.
