Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Defense Lieutenant General (Ret.) Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Kamala Shirin Lakhdir discussed potential bilateral defense collaborations, focusing on maritime security.
During the meeting at the Ministry of Defense office on Monday (28/10/2024), Ambassador Lakhdir expressed the U.S.'s interest in enhancing maritime security cooperation and continuing joint Super Garuda Shield exercises, held annually in Indonesia.
The U.S. proposed expanded cooperation in education, including English language training. This year marked the 75th anniversary of the U.S.-Indonesia diplomatic relations, with over 6,000 Indonesians, including military personnel, trained in the U.S. As many as nine Indonesian cadets are pursuing military education in the U.S in 2024
Minister Sjafrie, who assumed office on 21 October 2024, recently held discussions with Chinese Ambassador Wang Lutong, exploring opportunities for Indonesia-China defense cooperation, including future joint military exercises.
