Inp.polri.go.id - Beijing. Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian welcomed  Indonesia’s desire to join BRICS, a coalition of emerging economies, describing BRICS as an "open and inclusive mechanism" that encourages like-minded partners, including Indonesia, to join.

"BRICS has evolved as a positive, stabilizing force for global cooperation among developing economies," he said on Monday (28/101/2024), highlighting Indonesia's significance as a major emerging economy.

Lin noted Indonesia’s active participation in recent "BRICS Plus" collaborations.

During the BRICS Plus Summit in Kazan, Russia on 24 October 2024, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono raised Indonesia’s commitment to its independent foreign policy by expressing interest in joining BRICS.

Indonesia was officially recognized as a BRICS partner, along with 12 other nations, including Southeast Asian countries Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Established in 2009 with Brazil, Russia, India, China, and joined by South Africa in 2011, BRICS now includes additional members such as Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the UAE. Together, BRICS nations represent 43% of the global population and contribute significantly to global trade and economy.
