Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), and Canada, has initiated a national project to protect children from violent ideologies.

BNPT Deputy for International Cooperation, Andhika Chrisnayudhanto, announced on Friday (2/10/2024) the Indonesia National Work Plan 2024–2026, focusing on safeguarding Indonesian children from these ideologies.

The plan aimed to develop legal frameworks, strategies, and policies while enhancing the capacity of professionals in security, justice, and social services to address issues related to children linked to terrorist groups, according to antaranews.com.

A significant aspect of the project is its regional scope, intended to protect all children, regardless of gender, across South and Southeast Asia, as reported by antaranews.com.

Alexandra Martins, the Head of the UNODC’s End Violence Against Children team, emphasized the importance of aligning the project with national priorities for sustainable benefits.

This initiative builds on prior collaboration between Indonesia and UNODC since 2021, specifically addressing children associated with terrorist groups through the STRIVE Juvenile Project, which concluded in 2023, further enhancing Indonesia’s capabilities in this area.
