Inp.polri.go.id - Batam. Riau Islands Regional Police Chief Inspector General Asep Safrudin has voiced support for clearer division of authority in the Criminal Procedure Code bill (RUU KUHAP), calling it key to a fairer justice system.
“The Riau Islands Police supports a more defined distribution of powers to create an effective, transparent, and accountable criminal justice process,” he said during a visit by Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR) on Saturday (23/8/2025).
He emphasized human rights protection, transparency, equality before the law, and restorative justice as crucial elements of the bill. Chief Asep also underlined the need for victim compensation and rehabilitation programs for offenders.
Commission III Deputy Chair Moh. Rano Alfath, who led the delegation, said revisions to KUHAP, which has been unchanged since 1981, must adapt to legal dynamics, technology, and societal needs. He added that input from regional law enforcement would enrich the draft, ensuring coordination between police, prosecutors, and the judiciary without undermining institutional independence.
