Inp.polri.go.id - Pekanbaru. The Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation Unit of the Riau Regional Police conducted both external and internal investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding elephant Rahman's death at the Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN).
Chief of Sub-directorate IV, Assistant Superintendent Nasruddin, said they have qustioned 12 witnesses and found incidents of forest encroachment preceding elephant Rahman's death.
The suspects hindered forest ranger access by felling trees, with elephant Rahman clearing the land.
Chief Nasruddin said about cyber technology usage in the investigation and urged public cooperation in capturing the suspects.
Rahman, a Sumatran Elephant, was found dead, suspectedly killed for its tusks.
Head of TNTN, Heru Sutmantoro, explained elephant Rahman's condition and the suspected poisoning.
Initial treatment efforts failed, and elephant Rahman died tragically.
